In my series, “If Wine Would Be A Person,” each wine transforms into a living character. The idea behind it? To experience wines in a playful yet profound way. Today, it’s all about the 2019 Le Lucciole by Chiara Condello from Emilia-Romagna.

Le Lucciole Predappio Riserva 2019

The first time I had Le Lucciole 2019 in my glass, it felt like meeting a fascinating woman. Not the kind who commands attention loudly, but rather someone who quietly enters the room and immediately captivates you. She has an aura of strength and calmness that makes you pause.

That’s exactly how the first sip felt. Instantly, I thought: Wow, this isn’t a wine you casually sip while multitasking. It was this blend of elegance and depth that spoke to me right away. It was as if she was telling you her story, but not all at once—you could sense there was much more beneath the surface. Notes of cherry, a hint of herbs, and underneath, this subtle, almost salty minerality that made it clear she’s deeply rooted in her homeland.

I imagined her standing in her studio, canvas in front of her, as the sun sets outside. She works calmly, precisely, knowing exactly what she wants. Everything she creates has substance—just like this wine. Aged for two years in large oak barrels, made from old vines—you can feel it right away. She’s not in a hurry to finish. She takes the time she needs, and that’s what makes her so intriguing.

It was also clear that this wine wasn’t made for quick, easy enjoyment. It has edges and nuances that reveal themselves little by little. Each sip unveils a bit more of her, and before you know it, you want to learn more. This Le Lucciole has depth, like a good conversation that stays with you long after it’s over.

When you drink it, you won’t immediately know everything about it. It remains intriguing, evolving—just like a personality you keep rediscovering. Only 4,000 bottles exist, so it’s not for the masses, but for those willing to engage with something truly special.

For me, this wine was like encountering an artist whose work I’ll follow for years to come. And that’s why the 2019 Le Lucciole by Chiara Condello belongs in this series. It’s more than just a wine—it’s a story that you uncover piece by piece.
